STAIRS

Engineered stair solutions for residential, COMMERCIAL & architectural projects

From spiral and helical stairs to multi-level feature staircases and complex retrofit installations, each system is designed with structural integrity, compliance, fabrication methodology, and installation sequencing considered from the outset.

We work across steel and aluminium stair systems, integrating timber, glass, and balustrade elements where required. Every project is developed with careful attention to geometry, relative levels, load paths, anchorage, and buildability — ensuring the final installation performs as intended and aligns with the architectural vision.

Whether delivered as a new feature element or integrated within an existing structure, our stair systems are engineered to resolve constraints without compromising design intent.

FEATURE & ARCHITECTURAL STAIRS

This four-level residential stair was developed as a structural and architectural centerpiece, integrating exposed concrete walls, glass, and timber within a tight geometric envelope. The primary challenge was an angled wall condition on Levels 1 and 3, requiring the stair to fan outward as it ascended. The external stringer consisted of 12mm custom laser-cut steel plate, bolted directly into an exposed concrete wall. The center stringer was formed from twin 12mm laser-cut plates with a 16mm sawtooth spine plate sandwiched between them to accommodate 12mm glass panels. Each tread frame was fabricated from 50×50 SHS steel, with varying wall thicknesses selected based on span and deflection requirements.

Installation methodology was critical. The stringers were powder coated in Duratec® Eternity®Champagne Kinetic® prior to arrival on site, Tread frames were bolted bolted & site-welded to accommodate for tilt slab tolerance and allow some on-site adjustment. Once the structural assembly was complete, the frames were wrapped in timber for a seamless architectural finish

RETROFIT & UPGRADE STAIRS

This residential stair and deck upgrade was based on an original hand sketch by the project architect. During documentation review, a compliance issue was identified that had been missed earlier. The design was revised to meet compliance while maintaining the original architectural intent.

The deck subframe was constructed from steel PFC sections with custom laser-cut cleats to support timber joists and decking. It was powder coated in Duralloy® Black Night Sky® & fixed with M16 chemset anchors into rendered concrete walls.

The stair incorporated 200×50 RHS aluminium stringers, folded 3mm aluminium sheet, 50×50 SHS uprights, and a 50mm handrail, detailed to match the existing exterior aesthetic. Due to the irregular geometry, lifting points and center of gravity were calculated for safe crane installation.

The structure was supported on three concrete piles with rag bolt assemblies and secured with concealed M12 chemsets into the existing concrete landing. The finished stair system was powder coated in Duratec® Zeus® Surfmist®
